This initiative, Digital Accessibility Resources and Training (DART):

Every member of our campus community — faculty, staff and leadership — has a role in building an inclusive digital campus. This project provides the roadmap, resources and tools to get us there.

What is “Digital Content”

At App State, “digital content” includes all materials created, shared or published in electronic form.

  • Websites
  • Email and electronic newsletters
  • Course materials
  • Documents and PDFs
  • Presentations
  • Videos and audio
  • Forms and surveys
  • Social media posts
  • Mobile apps
  • Any third-party digital tools used for university business

If it’s online or shared electronically, it counts as digital content — and it must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirements.

A Shared Responsibility

Digital accessibility is a shared responsibility at App State — every member of the campus community plays a role in creating and maintaining accessible digital experiences.

Build digital accessibility habits

Practice makes progress! Consider digital accessibility from the beginning to build these habits into your workflow. Begin by asking: “How many ways can people access my content?”

Practice inclusion by:

  • Posting an image to a social media channel with alt text.
  • Choosing colors for a presentation that work for people with color vision differences.
  • Checking a PDF to see how it works with assistive technologies before exporting.
  • Organizing a document with proper headings.
  • Choosing clear language over jargon.
