Digital Accessibility Update: New federal compliance deadline
Since our Spring 2026 update, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has delayed the compliance deadline for ADA Title II web and mobile application accessibility regulations to April 26, 2027.
While this extension allows for additional outreach, training, evaluation and remediation of our digital content, we want to extend our sincere gratitude to faculty and staff in recognition of the incredible amount of time you have invested over the past year. Your efforts have made a tangible, positive difference for the campus community.
This ongoing work is vital, as is your dedication to ensuring an accessible learning and working environment and meeting the standards outlined in Policy 909: Digital Accessibility. At App State, this is about more than meeting federal regulations; it’s about removing barriers, enhancing the learning experience and empowering the success of all our students.
Spring 2026 Key Accomplishments
- We launched the Accessibility website on our updated web platform.
- Outreach has continued. We provided additional presentations, workshops and consultations across campus, and we identified and trained Digital Accessibility Liaisons, campus area designees to lead digital accessibility compliance within their area.
- Campus engagement continued. We hosted AccessFest in April, working labs for faculty to work on accessible course materials. And, we participated in Staff Appreciation Day at the Boone and Hickory campuses.
Summer 2026 Progress
- Website migration work continues, and sites are being launched weekly.
- We are evaluating and updating the Digital Accessibility Toolkit with new documentation and resources.
- Information Technology Services will implement a bulk PDF remediation tool to assist campus areas with large numbers of PDFs. More details will be shared soon.
